Today the Marang Parklands Hockey Fields is officially opened.
The Sutherland Shire Mayor, Carmelo Pesce, together with Attorney General and Cronulla MP Mark Speakman, representatives from Sydney South Hockey Association and our Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) partners Frasers Property and Breen, helped officially opened the Marang Parklands Hockey Fields at Greenhills.
Marang Parklands, formerly known as Greenhills Parklands, was renamed in consultation with local indigenous representatives and the community to recognise and acknowledge the Dharawal language as the first language in the Sutherland Shire.
The word ‘Marang’ meaning ‘Sandhill’, recognises the historical landscape of the area.
Over the next five years, through the VPA and completion of stages 2 and 3, the area of Marang Parklands will set a benchmark in NSW by contributing up to 30 million dollars value to the community, through a transformation into 91 hectares of parklands, 10 playing fields, and a skate park.
The already completed and extremely popular Skate Parks accompanies a full-sized football field that was opened as part of ‘Stage 1A’.These Hockey fields will see regional visitors to the area and it will be home to Hockey for at least the next 21 years.
