Over the past year, the EPA had directed it was going to introduce changes on how recovered fines are managed and recycled. The proposed changes would have a major impact on the Waste and Resource Recovery Industry as well as small businesses that work within this industry. These changes would have created a flow through effect of increased costs that would severely impact the Building and Waste Industry.
Understandably there was a significant reaction in the industry for review and a common sense approach to the proposed orders by members of the industry, including waste management facilities such as Breen. These concerns have been heard and understood by the EPA and moving forward the EPA will not introduce any changes.
What this means for our customers is the existing Recovered Fines Orders and Exemptions will remain in place and all current regulations will remain unchanged. The EPA will instead put a key focus on waste industry education, monitoring, and compliance to improve environmental outcomes.
