Major Sydney Redevelopment

Breen Resources received 67,150 tonnes of General Solid Waste from a major state-funded redevelopment at one of Sydney’s most significant venues, processed at our Kurnell facility and returned to circulation as recycled parkland material and certified soil.

This was a high-volume, tightly timed project, and one of the more operationally demanding jobs we have run this year.

Handling the volume

To keep pace with the throughput required, we ran a second weighbridge specifically for this project. Trucks turned around quickly, running a toll-free route that reduced cost and cut the carbon footprint of every trip. Across the full volume, the project ran with minimal issues and a smooth delivery from start to finish.

Where the material went

The soil recovered was high quality. A portion went directly back into parkland and landscape works. The remainder was supplied to our own soil customers as certified product, alongside the concrete crushed into road base and brick recovered into aggregate.

The bigger picture

Sydney is projected to face a 1.1 million tonne annual landfill shortfall by 2030. Projects like this one, run at real scale with the right infrastructure behind them, are what closing that gap actually looks like in practice.

Every product leaving our Kurnell facility is independently audited against the Green Star Construction and Demolition Waste Reporting Criteria, with a confirmed 89.33 per cent diversion rate. Every product is NATA-tested.
